As a TED Talk subscriber, I received their Today’s TED Talk email on 18th September 2015 inviting me to watch Scott Dinsmore’s talk entitled How to find the work you love. Many thousands of others will have also received this email. I had not heard of Scott Dinsmore, so I read the rest of the email.
Scott Dinsmore quit a job that made him miserable and spent the next four years wondering how to find work that was joyful and meaningful. He shares what he learned in this deceptively simple talk finding out what matters to you – and then getting started doing it.
“Perfect”. I thought. “I will very much enjoy listening to that” and set aside a quiet moment to watch it the following day.
24 hours later I settled down to watch it, but Googled Scott to find out more about him first. The headline that came up was San Francisco Bay Area man killed on Mount Kilimanjaro. I read it in disbelief. Scott was hiking with his wife and was killed in a freak accident, hit by a falling boulder. He was 33. A young entrepreneur with so much to give.
I then went on his website Live Your Legend and then I watched his TED presentation How to find the work you love which I can only describe as one of the most inspirational 17 minutes of my life. All that passion, energy and honesty from someone who chose the road less travelled.
Go on Scott’s website and learn from it. Watch the TED Talk and be inspired by this young man whose life has been so tragically cut short. Become a self-expert, only you can do that. What makes you come alive?
Life is not a dress rehearsal, you only have one stab at it and who knows what is around the corner? Make the necessary changes in your life so that find the work you love. Live your legend.
Our love and thoughts are with Scott’s wife Chelsea.
