Cultivating my Life’s Energy

Qigong, qi gong, chi kung, or chi gung (simplified Chinese: 气功; traditional Chinese: 氣功; pinyin: qìgōng; Wade–Giles: chi gong; literally: “Life Energy Cultivation”) is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training. With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi), translated as “life energy”.  Wikipedia

Too many years ago I played tennis every day and took part in at least 4 aerobic classes a week, plus a weekly Karate class.

karateOne of my closest friends was my aerobics teacher but her passion was Yoga.  She tried her hardest to teach me the rudiments of Yoga but, at the time, I was a bad student as I was obsessed with beating the hell out of a tennis ball. I just wasn’t mentally ready for the serene discipline that Yoga has to offer and I have always regretted not taking it more seriously then.

Not anymore, my senses have been serenely awoken by Qigong and I have only had one lesson.  One reason I have started having lessons is that I have become a bit of a couch potato and the other reason is that my immune system is compromised.couch-potato

So, when you study the  qigong1

it is a no brainer really.

Although it is early days for me, I am already dreaming of the day when I can do this …

… when my world will be a much more serene place.
