The 2017 Jersey Festival of Words

Wednesday September 27th – Sunday 1st October 2017

I feel very privileged to live on the small, but beautiful, island of Jersey.  However in the past, getting on and off our sceptred isle to track down literary events anywhere, has often presented a logistical challenge.  Not anymore, since 2015 we have been spoilt.

The Jersey Festival of Words was founded by a handful of people to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude.  If it hadn’t been for them, we would never have been able to pop down the road and be in touching distance of some of our most revered authors.

From TV presenters to chefs; from Poet Laureates to Children’s Laureates as well as getting to know some of our locally grown literary talent.

This year, you can be enthralled by the creator of The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Alexander McCall Smith; the biologist Richard Dawkins (Science in the Soul) and see BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray interviewed by Cathy Rentzenbrink about her book A History of Britain in 21 Women.  TV Presenter Clare Balding will be also here promoting her new children’s book The Racehorse who Disappeared.  I was gutted to hear that she is talking to school children only.  How I wish I could still squeeze into my school uniform.

I am excited to be kicking off my 5 days languishing in literature, with a dish of home grown wit and wisdom, The Blonde Plotters.

Click here to be transported to the list of the tantalising line up over the next few days.

Thank you very much for visiting my niche-less blog! If you have time before you leave, would love you to tell us what you think. All the best, Tessa Barrie
