“The first draft is black and white. Editing gives the story color.”
― Emma Hill
I would like to share this emotional moment with all of you that visit my blog on a regular basis – I don’t know what I would do without you – especially as I’m only managing to blog once a week these days.
It’s no secret that I have been grappling with my first work of fiction and I have just run off the first, complete, draft. I felt pumped whilst running it off, although there were a few anxious moments when my elderly printer started to make loud grinding noises towards The End.
I have, finally, delivered my first-born novel, it is here, in black and white. I can actually touch it and hold it in my hands. I feel calm, with a little glow of self-achievement, but not exuberance or elation. It is the calm before a stormy and ruthless re-write to give it colour, to give it life.
