As the world prepares themselves to face another major battle against the invisible killer, COVID-19, we all anxiously await the results of today’s US election, willing Biden to cross the line with a clear majority.

If he doesn’t, another Trump administration would be disastrous. More disruptive to U.S. foreign policy and world affairs than during the past four years.  Think on.  Think BBC TV’s Years and Years – a ghastly cliche in so many senses of the words.

If anybody needs a reminder of the catalogue of The Trump Horror Show, I suggest you read Lest We Forget the Horror: A Catalog of Trump’s Worst Cruelties, Collusions, Corruptions and Crimes by John McMurtrie, Ben Parker, Stepanie Steinbrecher, Kelsey Ronan, Amy Sumerton, Rachel Villa and Sophia DuRose.  Here is a flavour:

– Sexual Misconduct, Harassment, & Bullying
– White Supremacy, Racism, Homophobia, Transphobia, & Xenophobia
– Public Statements / Tweets
– Collusion with Russia & Obstruction of Justice
– Trump Staff & Administration
– Trump Family Business Dealings
– Policy
– Environment

I know how lucky I am to be living on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, UK.  It measures 119.5 km² and has a population of 107,800.  A great deal easier to protect from COVID-19 than the UK or the much larger landlocked countries – providing everybody works together.

Yesterday, the Jersey Government broadcasted their COVID-19 Winter Strategy which was delivered by Jersey’s Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, and the Deputy Medical Officer of Health, Dr Ivan Muscat.  Aftward I felt a sense of calm.  The Jersey Government is doing all they can to prevent and contain COVID-19 on the island.

During the last Lockdown, our lives on hold, it inevitably changed our perspective on many things. Now we are faced with more of the same, how we live and work in the future is at the forefront of our minds.

2020 has been a pretty shit year for us all.  For far too many, it brought an untimely end to their lives, through lack of governmental preparation, which cannot be allowed to happen again.  Arguably, Boris Johnson has once again, called for a belated nationwide lockdown.

Now we know what we are facing, our world’s leaders should learn from those who provided a masterclass in pandemic leadership during the first wave, and not fob their people off with ridiculous notions about drinking bleach to kill the virus.  We need global unity and wise leaders to get us through this.

In the meantime, our future is in our hands.  The feelings unrest and hate that have been passed down through generations has got to stop.  As mere mortals, we need to fight the coming storm together, but without violence or bloodshed.

  1. alhenry – I love a challenge (though I can sometimes be heard cursing myself for taking on yet another hydra-headed project). I enjoy anything that allows me to be creative: writing, cooking, garden design, decoupage. I travel whenever I can, and London is my favorite city in the world, the home of my heart. Over the years, I have paid the mortgage by writing, editing, and teaching. Home is a late-19th century heap (in constant need of TLC) that I share with my funny, smart, generous husband and two wayward cats. Aspirations? To publish my fiction, and enjoy each day.

Thanks for the nod to our election in the States. After 4 years of TheRUMP’s thuggery, racism, sexism, and just plain criminal behavior–with a COVID topping–the vast majority of Americans are exhausted. But not too exhausted to vote. We’re having record turnouts at the polls. Now if the lawyers on the ground can keep the GOP/Putin billionaire contingent from outright stealing the show, we may just make it. I don’t envy Biden. TheRUMP has destroyed much of the internal workings of our government. We will have to reboot/rebuild.

Thank you very much for visiting my niche-less blog! If you have time before you leave, would love you to tell us what you think. All the best, Tessa Barrie
