AFTER THE BIDEN/HARRIS VICTORY IT’S TIME TO UNITE

I have never been so emotionally involved in an American Presidential Election in my life but, since last Tuesday, I have been glued, as America’s future teetered on a knife-edge, and I’m not even American.

Last night, a long way away from America, the land of the free,  the news we were hoping for, finally,  flashed across our TV screens.

We cried, imbibed and danced to Kool & The Gang’s Celebration on our patio in the middle of our night waving sparklers in the air.  The feeling of joy, as well as relief, for a bunch of Brits thousands of miles away, was very real.

The Morning After

In the early hours of this morning, with a slightly Merlot-fuzzy brain, I started this piece which I had planned to call A Time to Heal until I discovered that others before me had already bagged the title, and I hope Times Magazine won’t reprimand me for publishing their image, but it is so poignant and uplifting.

After the calm Obama years, my American friends have not been living in the land of the free.  They have been under the tyranny of Trump, and they have just come out of their four-year nightmare. There are some wonderful illustrations of the aforementioned, and thoroughly rotten, loser, I would like to post here, but I don’t want to get sued.

The Future

President-elect, Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, I salute you.  If anybody is going to make America great again, it is you. You are the way forward.  You have won the hearts and minds of those who want to heal your great country, and, despite the enormous task ahead of you both; you will lead your countrymen and women forward to heal and unite.

“It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again. And to make progress we have to stop treating our opponents as enemies.”

‘This is the time to heal in America.”

Joe Biden – 8th November 2020

I don’t remember any leader in my adult life making me feel as exhilarated and positive about life than Joe Biden in his victory in speech.

We all need to unite, globally.  Our world is under threat from COVID-19 and Global Warming, and we all need to pull together to get through it.  If not for us, for our children and grandchildren.
