The truth is that I knew very little about Albert Lee, but his gig at the Jersey Opera House last week was a part of his ongoing and gruelling tour in what is his 76th year, which speaks volumes. Just looking at the dates and the venues spread around the world makes me feel tired.
The JADC have been back in action this week in The Studio at Jersey's Opera House. This time without a full-blown orchestra and without a full ensemble. Just a few props, in an intimate setting and some of the stalwarts of the club acting alongside some of its newer members.
The enthusiasm on stage was fuelled by the energy surging out from the orchestra pit below ... I thought the London Philharmonic Orchestra was down there and there were only 11 of them.
To all you talented people out there ... break a leg ... LOCATION: Jersey Opera House, 3 Gloucester Street, St Helier, JE2 3QR TIME: 1.30PM – 6PM
I frequently wax lyrical about how many incredibly talented people live on the small island of Jersey. Visitors to the island that were in the audience at the Opera House last night to see the Jersey Amateur Dramatic Club's performance of Boublil and Schonberg's Les Miserables could have been forgiven for thinking they were in... Barry Manilow's Copacabana The Musical 2014 tour has been at The Opera House this week and I went to see their final performance last night. Barry Manilow recorded the song “Copacabana” also known as “Copacabana (At the Copa)”, in 1978. The song was written by Manilow, Jack Feldman and Bruce Sussman and it tells the... Continue Reading →
I saw The Jersey Bounce for the first time supporting Tom Jones earlier this year on a big stage and absolutely loved their performance. Quite why I had never seen them before is beyond me! This is an incredible, Jersey-based,10 piece jazz/swing band fronted by Mark Willmett who has been performing swing most of his... Continue Reading →
I have eaten at the Oh! Cafébar at Jersey's Opera House twice in two weeks. For a pre-show meal or just a gourmet experience, you would be hard pushed to find anywhere better. The service is excellent, the menu is varied and the food first class. Their duck pate is probably the best I have... Continue Reading →
What a long way Ray Quinn has come since his first audition on the X Factor in 2006, aged 17. Sharon Osbourne, generally pretty astute when it comes to assessing star quality, summed up his audition by saying "Some people have a natural gift for entertaining .... and you are a natural ...". It is... Continue Reading →
At The Opera House, Jersey 10/10/14 in aid of the Jersey Branch of The Parkinson's Charity. Be there! It will be a great evening with the effervescent Jersey Bounce and Ray Quinn promoting his new album Old Soul; Young Blood.
I have lost count how many times I have seen Fascinating Aida, but as soon as the lights go down on one performance, I am on the Internet again looking another one of their shows to go and see. Currently they are on their Charm Offensive Tour, which runs until March 2015 and they performed... Continue Reading →
Tessa is being impossible this evening! She's cock a hoop (oh dear that translates into Cock rings in Mongolian) ... Um ... she is very full of herself ... that's even worse ... Himself fully in Mongolian. Anyway she has had one of her blogs retweeted on Twitter by none other Ray Quinn. Yes, really.... Continue Reading →
I saw The Jersey Bounce for the first time supporting Tom Jones recently and was absolutely knocked out by their performance. I couldn't understand, given the fact that they are based in Jersey, that I had never been to one of their gigs before. So I had just starting to look out for their upcoming... Continue Reading →
